CO---Colorado lawmakers are moving quickly to take back $110 million in funding from schools because of the recession.

MS---Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour has let key lawmakers know how he proposes to cut $413 million from the state's $5 billion budget, and some of them are worried that it cuts too deeply in the wrong places. Lawmakers say the Republican governor has given key House members a list of the programs he wants to cut by nearly 10 percent, including most of K-12 public education, universities and community colleges.

NY---The state will release $750 million in aid to schools and local governments today that was withheld last month because of the state's fiscal woes, Gov. David Paterson said Thursday.

MA---Governor Deval Patrick predicted last night that the Legislature’s approval of a sweeping education bill would bring to an end a chronic achievement gap between students of different socioeconomic backgrounds and would probably enhance the state’s chances of receiving $250 million in new federal stimulus money.

CA---Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed and submitted the last application for the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund, which could mean another $490 million in federal funds for schools.
